Texas Governor Greg Abbott to reveal new border security plan on Thursday

Over 2.1 million encounters along the U.S.-Mexico border in 2024, statistics show

EAGLE PASS, Texas – Texas Governor Greg Abbott is expected to discuss a new border security plan this week during a press conference.

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Wall Ranch in Eagle Pass, Texas.

The goal of the border security plan is to deter immigrants from illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas, a press release from Abbott’s office stated.

Numerous leaders from around Texas will attend the press conference, including Texas Department of Safety Director Freeman Martin, Texas Border Czar Mike Banks, Texas Association Against Sexual Assault CEO Rose Luna, and the Adjutant General of Texas Major General Thomas Suelzer.

Throughout 2024, there were over 2.1 million encounters along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to statistics from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
