Gov. Greg Abbott appoints Ben Robertson to 226th District Court

Seat left open after Judge Velia Meza elected to serve in Place Two on the Fourth Court of Appeals

SAN ANTONIO – Gov. Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of Benjamin “Ben” Robertson to the 226th Judicial District Court in Bexar County.

Robertson will officially take on his new role on Jan. 1, 2025. His term will run through Dec. 31, 2026, or until a successor is elected and qualified.

This appointment comes as Judge Velia Meza moves from the 226th District Court to her new position as Justice for Place Two on the Fourth Court of Appeals following her primary election victory over Democratic incumbent Beth Watkins.

About Robertson

Robertson, who hails from San Antonio, is currently the 73rd Judicial District Court Judge in Bexar County.

Abbott’s office said Robertson is board-certified in oil, gas and mineral law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

His career path includes serving as a staff attorney for the Fourth Court of Appeals and working as an attorney and shareholder at Santoyo Wehmeyer P.C., as well as an energy litigation associate at Cox Smith Matthews Inc.

Robertson is actively engaged with the State Bar of Texas, contributing to the Pattern Jury Charges Committee on Oil and Gas and the Oil, Gas, and Energy Resources Law Section, Abbott’s office said.

Robertson’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Sociology from Sam Houston State University, along with a Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law.
