Judson ISD takes no action against board member charged with DWI

Debra Eaton, a trustee since 2017, was charged with DWI in December 2023

SAN ANTONIO – During a Thursday Judson Independent School District board of trustees meeting, no action was taken against a trustee whose arrest in 2023 for DWI was kept private.

Debra Eaton, who has served as a trustee since May 2017, was arrested and charged with DWI after an officer pulled her over on FM 78 on Dec. 19, 2023.

A San Antonio police report alleged Eaton’s vehicle was swerving. An arresting officer said she smelled of alcohol and showed signs of bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

Eaton was booked into the Bexar County Jail on Dec. 20 and later released the same day.

That arrest, however, was kept from other board members, one member told KSAT Investigates.

An agenda for the Thursday meeting described the matter being addressed during a closed session.

When board members returned to open session, no action was taken against Eaton.

Board members said because Eaton has not been found guilty of DWI, they did not want to “make a hasty decision.”

According to Judson ISD’s board policy, a board member could be removed for “intoxication on or off duty caused by drinking an alcoholic beverage.”

Eaton’s current term on the board ends in May 2025.

Online records show Eaton is expected to appear in court next month.
