The shooting happened at around 11:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Bradford Avenue, not far from South General McMullen Drive and Culebra Road.

According to SAPD, the suspect — 32-year-old Johnathon Vasquez — was outside working on his car when an unknown female approached his property.

Vaquez allegedly asked the woman what she was doing on his property, but police said she ignored him. Instead, the 45-year-old woman began walking toward Vasquez’s front door.

Police said Vasquez, who told authorities he believed she was a potential burglar, then told her that he had a gun, retrieved the weapon, and told her to get off of his property.

After SAPD said the woman refused to leave, Vasquez shot her once in the chest. The woman then ran to another neighbor’s house, asking for help with her gunshot wound.

Authorities said she was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

San Antonio police initially said Vasquez was not under arrest and was only being detained for further questioning by investigators.

According to SAPD’s latest report, however, Vasquez is now facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.
