Family of slain woman uses AI to seek justice

Meagan Gonzales’ 2019 murder case remains unsolved

SAN ANTONIO – Five years after Meagan Gonzales was found murdered and burned in a field, her family continues to search for answers.

In hopes of generating new leads, an AI-generated video featuring Meagan Gonzales and a sketch of a person of interest was released earlier this year.

Her father, Eddie Gonzales, remains determined to find justice.

Meagan Gonzales, 20, was last seen on Nov. 11, 2019. Her body was discovered on Dec. 3, 2019, on a property in Atascosa County. Her father said the news of her death devastated the family.

“I don’t understand why that happened to her because everybody liked her. She got along with anybody,” Eddie Gonzales said.

Despite years of investigation and leads, no arrests have been made. The recent AI video, which features Meagan Gonzales speaking about her case, has renewed hope for answers.

“My case is still unsolved, and I need your help so my family can receive some answers and justice for me,” the AI-generated video states.

The video also includes a sketch of a person of interest, who Gonzales’s stepmother reported seeing driving Meagan’s truck just days after her disappearance.

Eddie Gonzales said the video has provided comfort, adding, “It felt like I was really seeing somebody had really seen her and recorded her. It was very nice. Feeling for me. I liked it. I think I still see it over and over.”

When asked whether he believes an arrest will be made, Eddie Gonzales remains hopeful. “I think so. It’s just a matter of time,” he said.

As the holiday season approaches, Eddie Gonzales and his family continue to honor Meagan’s memory. “Like poinsettias. She used to love those. I buy those. I still buy those,” he shared.

The investigation into Meagan Gonzales’s death remains active. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.
