Firefighters said the home was supposed to be vacant but nearby residents reported seeing a man leave the property as the fire broke out.

That man was detained. Firefighters said he may have been seeking shelter and may have started a fire inside that got out of control.

The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire remain under investigation. Arson investigators are working to determine whether the man played a role in the fire.

The family living next door to the abandoned house was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. Their home was not damaged, and no injuries were reported.
