SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama is rising in the basketball player charts, as is his name in the pet community.
Rover.com released its pet names report, chronicling the most popular pet names of 2024, including the top spots in sports-related dog names.

“Wemby,” the nickname for the French-born Spurs player, was ranked second place for dogs with sports-related names. According to Rover, the name was up by 127%.
Brunson — named after New York Knicks player Jalen Brunson — took home first place on the sports-related dog name list.
Overall, the favorite name for both cats and dogs was ”Bluey,“ named after the blue heeler puppy from the popular Australian TV series.
Other notable mentions were cheese-related names soaring in the charts, with Calzone, Chive and Provolone tying for first place in culinary names. Taylor Swift and Harry (Styles) topped celebrity and music names for pets, respectively.
