SAFD says 3 people, including a 7-year-old child, injured in Southwest Side house fire

The 7-year-old suffered serious burns, according to an SAFD investigator on the scene

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio fire investigator said three people were injured in a Sunday morning house fire on the Southwest Side.

First responders received a house fire call around 8:30 a.m. in the 5800 block of Elm Valley Drive.

When KSAT responded to the scene approximately 45 minutes later, firefighters were seen spraying water on the roof behind the home.

Just before 11 a.m., an SAFD fire investigator told KSAT that three of the four people at the home were injured in the fire, including a 7-year-old child.

The investigator said the fire appeared to start from a fire pit located behind the home.

As a result of the fire, the 7-year-old suffered serious burns and is receiving treatment, the SAFD investigator said. The child’s parents also suffered unspecified injuries.

The fire department does not yet know what was being burned in the fire pit.

The investigator on the scene said its investigation is ongoing.
