Valero Alamo Bowl draws fans to tailgates, pre-game festivities

Alamo Bowl attracts visitors to San Antonio for a weekend of excitement

SAN ANTONIO – Thousands of people across San Antonio tailgated and had their own pre-game rituals ahead of the Valero Alamo Bowl on Saturday morning.

At the Pearl, fans like Michael Flores played some football-themed games and were happy to see their city shine.

“I love seeing the city in the limelight. I feel like San Antonio doesn’t get enough love when it comes to the bigger cities. And we’re one of the biggest cities in the country. So, you know, I think we deserve a little bit of love,” he said.

Rob Danzig and Orrie Gartner, two friends from college in Colorado, flew down to San Antonio to explore the Pearl and watch the game.

“We’ve known each other for 30 years. This is a great excuse to get together. And what better place than San Antonio? It’s like, such a beautiful place and welcoming,” they said.

Linh and Vince Inglima said they love to travel across the country to watch BYU games. The Cougar fans said bringing their family to the game is really what makes it fun.

“We love having them in the Big 12, so we get to try to go to all the different games that are around, and it worked out great that they’re down here this year,” said Vince Inglima.

Outside the Alamodome, fans started tailgating early in the morning, eating some food on the grill before going into the stadium.

“Canopy, shade, music, and food make a great tailgate,” said Leo Gonzales.
