Pedestrian struck, killed by SUV on South Side, San Antonio police say

Crash happened near Loop 410 and Hunters Pond

SAN ANTONIO – A man in his 30s is dead after a driver hit and killed him on the South Side, according to San Antonio police.

Officers were called to the area of Loop 410 and Hunters Pond around 6 a.m. Monday for a crash.

Police said the SUV driver was in the center lane on the 410 access road when she struck a pedestrian she didn’t see.

The driver got out of their vehicle and realized she had hit a man, police said.

The man who was hit was pronounced dead at the scene, according to SAPD.

A short time before the crash, police received a call from a Valero gas station that a person was having a mental or drug-related episode and was spitting on cars and yelling profanities at people in the area. Police said the description of that person matched the one of the man hit by the driver. Officers have not confirmed if it was the same person.

The driver who hit the man was uninjured. It’s unclear if they will face any charges.

Police will remain at the scene for a few more hours as the investigation continues.
