Two men entered the store wearing masks and demanded money from the clerk, a preliminary report from SAPD said.

One of the men shot the 49-year-old clerk after he hesitated in providing money, police said.

The pair fled from the scene. It is unclear if anything was stolen from the store.

The clerk was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover, police said.

A previous report from SAPD at the scene said the pair were believed to have been involved in carjackings and allegedly left a stolen car at the scene. Police could not confirm the information in their report or a follow-up email, citing their ongoing investigation.
