Medical examiner identifies man killed in shooting on West Side

SAPD detained person on unrelated warrant but said they were not confirmed to be connected to shooting

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man who died in a shooting Wednesday on the West Side.

Jason Huizar, 32, died in the shooting Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. in Paso Chico Alley, which is located south of the intersection of Merida Street and South Brazos Street.

Officers were dispatched to the area for reports of a shooting. On their arrival, officers located Huizar wounded on the ground.

Multiple witnesses in the area reported hearing gunshots and seeing a man fleeing from the area on foot, according to a preliminary report from police.

Later, officers located a man who fit the description of the alleged shooter.

The person was detained on an unrelated felony warrant but was not confirmed to be part of the shooting, the report said.

Huizar was later pronounced dead on the scene. The cause and manner of death were not immediately known.

Police did not provide additional information about a potential suspect. SAPD said its investigation is ongoing.
