While the year is just getting started, there are plenty of events throughout January. You can catch a free movie at The Rock at La Cantera or later in the month, and you can participate in the MLK March, too.
Here’s to the new year! Take a look at these January events:
Jan. 1-5 events:
- ALAMO CITY LX MOPAR CAR SHOW: The Tower of the Americas will host a free car show from 6-10 p.m. on Jan. 4 at the base of the tower. The car show will feature Dodge Mopar vehicles such as Chargers, Challengers, Magnums and Chrysler 300s.
- BRISCOE WESTERN ART MUSEUM: This downtown museum presents art and artifacts representing the American West. Locals can get free entry for Locals Day on the first Sunday of each month.
- FIRST FRIDAY FLIX: The Rock at La Cantera will host a free movie screening of “Soul” at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 3.
- HOLIDAY LIGHTS: There’s still time left to check out some Christmas lights around the area. For a list of locations that still have their holiday lights up, click here.
- ROTARY ICE RINK: The ice rink in Travis Park will continue to run until Jan. 5. The rink will be open from 5-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5-11 p.m. on Fridays, noon to 11 p.m. on Saturdays and school holidays, and 1-8 p.m. on Sundays. General admission tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased here.
- SAN ANTONIO SPURS: Watch the NBA team play against the Denver Nuggets at 7 p.m. on Jan. 4 at the Frost Bank Center. Tickets are available online.
- “SELENA VIVE: THE MUSIC OF SELENA”: The San Antonio Philharmonic will perform “Selena Vive” at the Majestic Theatre on Jan. 3, 4, and 5. The tribute will blend iconic hits from Selena Quintanilla-Pérez played by the live orchestra. Available times and tickets can be found online.
Jan. 6-12 events:
- MOVIE IN THE PARK: The Tower of the Americas will host a free movie screening for “Elvis” from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Jan. 11.
Jan. 13-19 events:
- GARDEN RIDGE MARKET DAYS: Guests can visit Garden Ridge for its Market Days from 9:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 at Northeast Bible Church, located at 19185 FM 2252. The event will feature over 200 local food, craft farm and business vendors, as well as live music and free children’s activities. Admission is free.
Jan. 20-26 events:
- ALAN WALKER: The artist will perform at 8 p.m. on Jan. 22 at the Boeing Center at Tech Port. Tickets are available online.
- “DOG MAN: THE MUSICAL”: The musical will be performed at the Majestic Theatre on Jan. 25 and 26. Available times and tickets can be seen here.
- DREW LYNCH: The comedian will bring his “The Faking It Tour” to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. on Jan. 24. Tickets can be purchased here.
- MLK MARCH: The 38th-annual Martin Luther King, Jr. March will begin at 10 a.m. on Jan. 20 at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy. A park celebration at Pittman-Sullivan Park will follow it. The March lineup starts as early as 9 a.m. More information can be found online.
- MONSTER JAM: The iconic Monster Jam competition returns to the Alamo City at 7 p.m. on Jan. 25 at the Alamodome. Families can enjoy watching amazing stunts from 12,000-pound trucks standing on their wheels and flying in the air. Tickets can be purchased online.
- NOCHE DE CHARRERIA: The Rock at La Cantera will host a celebration of Mexico’s traditional Equestrian practice starting at 4 p.m. on Jan. 25. There will be culture stations and live music from Camila Fernandez. This event is free and open to the public.
- TOWER CLIMB & RUN: The Tower of the Americas will host a fundraising event in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation on Jan. 25. The event will consist of a 1-mile run followed by a 952-step climb to the top of the Tower of the Americas. For more information and to register for the event, click here.
Jan. 27-31 events:
- LATIN MAFIA: The pop band will perform at the Boeing Center Tech Port on Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.
Recurring events:
- FREE YOGA SESSION: The Good Kind will host a free yoga session from 10-11 a.m. every Sunday.
- KERRVILLE RENAISSANCE FESTIVAL: The festival returns to the Hill Country for its ninth year. It is expected to run on the following weekends: Jan. 18-19, Jan. 25-26, and Feb. 1-2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the River Star Arts and Events Park on the grounds of the Hill Country Youth Event Center, 3785 TX-27 in Kerrville.
- MARKET DAYS: Visit the Pearl for Farmers Market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to shop for local produce and meat. The Pearl is located at 303 Pearl Pkwy.
- WINTERFEST: The Rock at La Cantera will host Winterfest until Jan. 6. Guests can head out to ice skate, visit Santa every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or enjoy shopping at the holiday market. The market is open every Friday and Saturday from 6-11 p.m.
