SAN ANTONIO – A California vegetable company said some of its broccoli florets sold in Texas may contain listeria.
Braga Fresh, who announced the advisory on Dec. 27, 2024, said Texas Health and Human Services tested its washed and ready-to-eat 12-ounce Marketside Broccoli Florets, which have been sold at Walmart stores in the state.

One of those multiple samples yielded a positive test for listeria, the company said.
The Food and Drug Administration confirmed Braga Fresh’s advisory on Dec. 31, 2024.
Braga Fresh said the 12-ounce bag of Marketside Broccoli Florets can be identified with the following identifiers:
- a UPC of 6 81131 32884 5 on the back of the bag
- a “best-if-used-by-date” of Dec. 10, 2024, and Lot Code: BFFG327A6 on the front of the bag
The company said the broccoli florets are no longer in Walmart stores but also recognizes shoppers who may have frozen the broccoli florets for future use.
Braga Fresh said those consumers should not consume the broccoli florets and instead throw them away.
This listeria advisory does not apply to other Marketside or Braga Fresh-produced products, the company said.
According to the FDA, people who contract listeria may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Listeria can also cause serious and fatal infections in young children, older people and others with weakened immune systems as well as miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, the agency said.
No illnesses have been reported in connection to Braga Fresh’s Marketside broccoli florets, the company said in a news release.
In addition to Texas, the broccoli florets were sold in 19 states which include Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.
