Man shot twice in reported East Side road rage incident, SAPD says

Police say a man was rushed to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said it is searching for a driver who rammed their vehicle and shot another driver on the East Side.

The incident began just after 6:30 p.m. on Thursday along Interstate 35 southbound.

According to an SAPD officer on the scene, the suspect’s vehicle and a second vehicle hauling a trailer first traveled southbound along I-35.

The suspect’s vehicle attempted to get in front of the vehicle hauling the trailer but had difficulty due to the second vehicle’s cargo, authorities said.

At one point, police said both vehicles exited off Interstate 35, made a U-turn and began traveling northbound on I-35.

While along the interstate, SAPD said the suspect’s vehicle changed lanes to the right-hand lane next to the vehicle hauling a trailer. The suspect then rammed their vehicle into the victim’s passenger side.

Next, the officer said the suspect’s vehicle came back around and began driving in the left-hand lane next to the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle. After that, the suspect pulled out a weapon and fired at the victim’s vehicle five times.

Police said the driver of the trailer was hit twice in the legs.

Both vehicles then pulled over into a parking lot on the I-35 access road near Rittiman Road.

The officer said the victim, a 44-year-old man, was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, who SAPD was driving a purple Mazda, fled the scene.

The department said its investigation is ongoing.
