SAPD says suspect shot, killed his ex’s 27-year-old significant other at West Side apartment complex

Officers were dispatched to the shooting around 12:30 p.m. in the 8300 block of Potranco Road

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said a suspect is in custody after he was accused of shooting and killing another man at a West Side apartment complex.

Officers responded to a shooting in progress call at the complex around 12:30 p.m. on Friday in the 8300 block of Potranco Road, which is located near Loop 410.

When officers arrived, they found a 27-year-old man with at least two gunshot wounds in an apartment breezeway. Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the 27-year-old victim as Frank Vallejo Jr. on Friday night.

Authorities said it is unclear how many times Vallejo was shot.

In a Friday afternoon news conference, police said that a woman, Vallejo and the 24-year-old suspect — who is also the father of the woman’s 6-year-old child — were arguing inside one of the apartments.

During the argument, SAPD said the suspect pulled out a weapon and shot Vallejo, who is also the woman’s significant other, multiple times.

The suspect then took the 6-year-old child, who was also present, and fled the scene, SAPD said.

Moments later, officers learned that the suspect fled to another apartment within the same complex where one of his relatives lived.

Authorities said they called out to the suspect to surrender and he did without further incident. The 24-year-old was taken into custody and his 6-year-old child was found unharmed, investigators said.

No other injuries were reported.
