Family sells plates of food to cover loved one’s funeral costs

Justice sought for victim of deadly shooting on the West Side of San Antonio

SAN ANTONIORamiro Alvarado, 18, died in late December of last year after a shooting on the West Side.

According to San Antonio police, four to six men, who still have not been identified, shot at a house on Adaes Street.

Alvarado was shot in the chest and later died at a local hospital, police said.

Alvarado’s family sold plates of food to prepare for the cost of his funeral, a cost they didn’t expect at such a young age.

“Any [money] leftover would go to a headstone,” Nadia Alvarado, Ramiro’s older sister, said. “Just to give him the best send-off.”

Police told KSAT that the shooters used rifles and wore hoodies with their faces covered during the incident.

Alvarado’s family is searching for justice, and for Nadia, justice is “putting the shooters away and making sure they never get out again.”

In the meantime, the community is supporting the Alvarado family with funeral expenses and sending prayers to the family.

“It’s just beautiful to see everybody just coming together as one and being as strong as they can for one another,” Nazaree Martinez, Ramiro’s girlfriend, said. “He was very loving, funny, handsome, caring – always there for you.”

If you have any information about the deadly shooting, contact Crime Stoppers of San Antonio at 210-224-STOP.
