LOS ANGELES, CA – Fast-moving wildfires are burning through the Los Angeles area, killing at least two people and causing thousands of residents to flee as homes and businesses are destroyed.
The fires began blowing through the area Tuesday, fueled by Santa Ana wind gusts up to 70 mph in some spots. Aircrafts were unable to attack the fires from the sky on Wednesday due to safety risks.
In certain areas, tens of thousands of residents are under evacuation orders and many remain without power.
California has deployed more than 1,400 firefighting personnel to combat the fires, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom. The Los Angeles Fire Department has also urged all off-duty firefighters in the city to help.
