18 immigrants found hidden inside tanker in Seguin, sheriff’s office says

Driver detained for further questioning; immigrants were not injured

SEGUIN, Texas – Deputies discovered over a dozen immigrants hidden inside an 18-wheeler during a traffic stop, according to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.

The smuggling attempt was revealed around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at exit 604’s ramp along Interstate 10 eastbound.

The Seguin Gazette reported that the driver of the 18-wheeler was detained for further questioning.

Eighteen immigrants were found hidden inside the tank attached to the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

The immigrants were removed from the tank without further incident. Authorities said none of them suffered injuries.

Deputies said the immigrants were then provided food and water before being released to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

According to officials, the immigrants were from various countries, including El Salvador, Ecuador, Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.
