2 injured in drive-by shooting near Whataburger on Northeast Side

Pair were shot as they walked to nearby Whataburger; alleged shooters drove off

SAN ANTONIO – Two people were injured after shots were fired near a Whataburger on the Northeast Side, according to San Antonio police.

Officers responded to the shooting in the 4600 block of Rittiman Road just after 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Two people — a 34-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man — were walking from a bus stop to the restaurant when they were shot by people in a car leaving a gas station across the street, according to a preliminary police report.

The woman was shot in the abdomen, and the teen was shot in the ankle. Both were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The vehicle fled toward Interstate 35, police said.

It is unclear how many shots were fired and how many occupants were inside the vehicle. A description of the vehicle was not immediately known.
