This exciting initiative invites local students in grades 3-12 from South San Antonio to showcase their creative talents and become published writers for Live from the Southside magazine and website.

The Youth Writing Program provides an incredible opportunity for students to submit personal essays, poems, songs, speeches and family-friendly nonfiction pieces.

Each submission must be a maximum of 300 words. This initiative also allows teachers to incorporate the program into extra credit assignments or classroom challenges, fostering creativity and skill development.

A Commitment to Student Creativity and Growth

Soarion Credit Union’s involvement goes beyond sponsorship; they are dedicated to providing resources that nurture creativity, literacy and personal growth.

Their support reflects their commitment to investing in local communities and fostering educational development.

Through this partnership, Soarion Credit Union is helping to shape the next generation of writers, leaders and storytellers.

How Students Can Participate

Local South Side students are invited to become contributing writers to the Youth Writing Program.

Participants will have an opportunity to have their work published on Live from the Southside’s website and in our magazine. With the flexibility to submit essays, poems, songs, speeches, and family-friendly nonfiction pieces, the program allows students to explore a variety of writing styles and topics.

Each student can also submit up to four images with their work, allowing them to pair their words with visuals that enhance their stories.

To participate, students must include their full name, teacher’s name, school name, and district in their submissions.

All entries must be submitted by the 12 of each month to qualify for publication.

This program empowers students to hone their writing skills and encourages them to share their voices with the wider community.

Students from East Central ISD, South San ISD, Southside ISD, and Harlandale ISD have already had students showcased in previous magazine issues.

Celebrating Student Contributions

At the end of the school year, students who have participated in the Youth Writing Program will be recognized with awards to celebrate their contributions.

These awards will acknowledge the dedication and creativity that each student has shown throughout the year, thanks to the support of Soarion Credit Union.
