‘It was dangerous’: Visitors caught in middle of cold rain discuss their travels

Also: an update on road conditions ahead of the Texas Longhorns’ appearance in Friday’s Cotton Bowl Classic

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – KSAT anchor Stephania Jimenez spoke with travelers at the Buc-ee’s location in New Braunfels who braved Thursday’s slick conditions.

George Miller, who is from Indiana but drove down from Dallas, wanted nothing to do with whatever North Texas would have to deal with.

“I’m trying to get away from the weather. It’s freezing cold,” Miller said. “Glad I got out of there (Dallas) before (sic) I did.”

A top concern for some drivers like Annette Alanis, who stopped in New Braunfels on her way to Arizona, was visibility.

“When we were driving up here, it was dangerous,” Alanis said. “I was scared because there was a lot of rain, and you couldn’t really see the lines of the road.”

While Jimenez was in New Braunfels, she also caught up with Meteorologist Brittany Begley from our sister station KPRC in Houston.

Begley is in Arlington to update weather and road conditions ahead of Friday’s Cotton Bowl Classic between the Texas Longhorns and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

According to Begley, areas in and around Arlington have already experienced rain, sleet and snow.

“Some places, just north of Dallas, they have already seen five inches of snow,” Begley told KSAT. “We anticipate more snow overnight. Two to five inches, maybe even more, on top of this slushy mess.”
