SAN ANTONIO – Muertos Fest will return to Hemisfair in October, bringing thousands of people to downtown San Antonio for one of the nation’s largest Día de los Muertos festivals.
The festival honors the traditions of Día de los Muertos through art, live music and more than 80 altars created by community members.
The event is designed as a space for families and visitors to remember loved ones while experiencing cultural traditions tied to the holiday.
Jim Mendiola, artistic director of Galaxy Productions, joined GMSA at 9 on Friday, Sept. 25, to talk about how Muertos Fest has grown over the years and what visitors can expect at this year’s event.
The festival begins Friday, Oct. 23, with “¡Presente! A Night to Remember” from 5-11 p.m.
A sensory-friendly altar viewing will take place from 5-7 p.m.
Events continue Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with a Día de los Muertos procession scheduled for 7 p.m.
The festival wraps up Sunday, Oct. 25, from noon to 9 p.m.
A second Día de los Muertos procession is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Muertos Fest will take place at Hemisfair, where visitors can view community altars, listen to live music and take part in a celebration centered on remembrance and tradition.
