SAN ANTONIO – An 18-year-old man was taken into custody Monday for allegedly making a school shooting threat at Charlotte Independent School District in Atascosa County, according to the sheriff’s office.
The FBI notified the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office of the threat. Charlotte ISD interim Superintendent Toni Wood told KSAT she received the call around 5:30 a.m.

Wood said the man, who is not a student within the district, was taken into custody around 11:30 a.m.
The man is being held at the Atascosa County jail on a warrant stemming from a prior felony assault charge, the sheriff’s office said. Charges related to the threat are pending.
Wood said the school started on time but in secure status, meaning doors were locked, and no visitors were allowed inside while normal school activities continued. Parent meetings were canceled, according to Wood.
Students were also searched as they entered the schools.
A large number of deputies and investigators were assigned to Charlotte ISD and all other Atascosa County school districts. Deputies, criminal investigators, the Texas Rangers, Texas Highway Patrol and FBI agents worked together to locate the man.
In a statement, Charlotte ISD said additional law enforcement will remain on its campuses, and more deputies will continue to patrol around the perimeter.
