Police said Garza snatched a gold rope chain from the store on Bandera Road and fled. A woman working at the counter chased after Garza as he jumped into a car that was waiting for him, an arrest affidavit said.

The woman and Garza both struggled for the chain while he was in the car, and at some point, there was a gunshot and the driver stepped on the gas.

The driver eventually let the woman out of the vehicle.

Police said the driver was identified after he showed up to a hospital with a gunshot wound later that day. The affidavit said he gave them Garza’s first name and two possible last names.

Garza was arrested last week.
