SAN ANTONIO – De Vonjae Smoots, 19, is believed to be the man who broke into a Northeast Side home and struggled with a pregnant woman over a gun.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, San Antonio police arrested him Monday morning after a burglary in the Sunrise subdivision. Detectives then got a hunch he also may be linked to the home invasion which had happened the prior evening, the affidavit said.
In that case, officers responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. Sunday about shots fired in the 4000 block of Sunrise Creek.
Police said a woman there told them that she had awoken and found a stranger inside.

The woman spoke to KSAT 12 News later, saying that the intruder pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her. Although she is 37 weeks pregnant, she said she struggled with the man over the gun when he attempted to shoot her dog. At that point, the gun somehow discharged but no one was hit.
The victim said in order to calm down the burglar, she agreed to help him steal her own property, by carrying it outside her home for him.
The man ran away before officers arrived.
Police detained Smoots after a burglary on a neighboring street Monday morning. They began investigating the possibility that he also may be linked to the home invasion, the affidavit said.
The affidavit said that the victim in the home invasion was able to identify Smoots in a photo lineup as the man who broke into her home.
Smoots was arrested on a charge of aggravated robbery.
