Man's fencing operation ends in arrest, recovery of $20,000 worth of goods, police say

SAN ANTONIO – A man’s alleged fencing operation making big profits ended with his arrest Thursday after police said they recovered $20,000 worth of stolen goods.

Ramon Rodriguez, who is in his 60s, is accused of selling an assortment of hardware tools, clothing and boots, some still with tags on them.

Police said they had been watching Rodriguez for some time. His storefront was at a flea market in the area near Commerce Street and Enrique Barrera Parkway.

The San Antonio Police Department’s Fencing Interdiction Team said other people involved in the scheme would sell the stolen goods to vendors, who would then sell to the public. Police said previous arrests led them to Rodriguez.

Investigators said they found $20,000 worth of merchandise at Rodriguez’s booth and his home.

Police said they expect more arrests to come.

Rodriguez will be charged with organized retail theft, which is a state felony.
