SAN ANTONIO – The man who was with Andrew Bice, the man accused of shooting at slain Officer Miguel Moreno and wounded Officer Julio Cavazos, has been arrested on separate charges Saturday, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said.
McManus said police arrested William Lawson in the 1600 block of McCullough Avenue on a felon in possession of a firearm charge and a felony narcotics charge.
Police had received a call for a suspicious person Saturday afternoon. Two officers responded to the call and approached Lawson, where they discovered he was carrying a 22-caliber pistol in his waistband and heroin, McManus said.
McManus said Lawson was not charged on Thursday because there was nothing he could be charged with in connection to the shooting involving Bice.
“If there were anything that we could have charged him with in connection with that shooting, those two shootings, we would have done that,” McManus said.
The chief said Lawson was not cooperative in the shooting investigation.
“Mr. (Lawson) seems to be a pathological liar, so we don’t know if any of the information he gave us is true or not. We think everything he said is a lie,” McManus said.
McManus said the charges Lawson faces are two completely different charges not related to the shooting.
“We brought him in here tonight to see if we could get further information, maybe connected to the shootings on Thursday, or anything else. But he was carrying a pistol in the same area where the two officers were shot,” McManus said.
