MEDINA COUNTY, Texas – The recent sky-rocketing temperatures are definitely not softening the blow to what's happening to Medina Lake.
The water level at Medina Lake is at its lowest level in years, according to area experts.

The latest figures released on Sunday showed that the lake was at 979.88 feet, and it's expected to get worse.
"There's still some water, but by the time you get into it, you are standing in about two to three feet of mud," said Zane Edwards, who has lived closed to the lake for more than 24 years."
Edwards said he has just been watching the lake go down week after week.
"Water used to be about a hundred feet from the house," he said. "Now, it's 700 yards from the house. It used to take 30 seconds to walk out there. Now, you have to drive. It's so far away."
While the water level is at its lowest in years, it's not the lowest it's ever been. In 1958, the lake level then was at 940 feet.
The evaporating Medina Lake has taken it's toll on the community, transforming it into somewhat of a ghost town. Businesses have closed, and for the most part, the tourists are just not coming around.
"I know a lot of people are selling stuff," said Edwards. "I don't know if it's actually affected the prices or anything like that, but there's nowhere near as much traffic as there used to be."
Residents say Medina Lake would need a flood, probably on the level with the flood of 2002, to get it to start filling up again.
However, with this being the hottest and driest part of the year, and with no relief in sight, they say the lake just seems to be getting lower and lower.
