SAN ANTONIO – House Republicans will vote next week to fund President Trump's $1.6 billion request to begin building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
One local congressman is calling into question the last-minute change.

Republican leaders have decided to attach the border wall money to a spending bill for the Defense Department.
The money was originally linked to the House Appropriations Homeland Security spending bill.
Adding the wall money to the Defense spending measure would most likely ensure its passage through the House, despite opposition. It's a move U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar is against because the change didn't go up for a vote.
“I am disappointed by this decision to move funding for the president’s senseless border wall to the Department of Defense omnibus spending package without a vote," Cuellar said. "Adding this funding for the wall to the Defense spending measure, against regular order, is an attempt to ensure its passage through the House early next week without time for full review."
Cuellar said he will continue to emphasize that a wall is a bad idea: "We owe it to our constituents to debate the rationality behind this expensive project. I will continue to listen to my constituents and emphasize to my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, that a wall is nothing more than an inefficient 14th-century solution to a 21st-century problem.”
