Splash park accommodates disabled, non-disabled guests

SAN ANTONIO – After nearly two years of construction, Morgan's Wonderland will open the first ultra-accessible water park Saturday, giving those with physical or cognitive special needs a place to play "without barriers."

While Morgan's Inspiration Island Splash Park accommodates those of varying abilities, park representatives made it clear that the park is "not a special-needs park." The release said the park should be seen as a park of inclusion "built for everyone's enjoyment."

Before the splash park is opened to the public on Saturday, the park invited groups that serve those with special needs to test all aspects of the new splash park.

The splash park is equipped with a seven-story lighthouse, five water play areas and other "splashy elements." Each is wheelchair-accessible. The park also provides waterproof wristbands with RFID technology to easily locate members of a party and waterproof wheelchairs.

The park will be open daily throughout the summer until mid-August, and on weekends after thereafter.

Those who would like to visit the park are asked to book admission in advance on the Morgan's Wonderland website.
