SAN ANTONIO – A grieving mother is making an impassioned plea for information in the October murder of her 29-year-old-son, Renard Smith.
"I just want someone to come forward and say something, please," she said through tears in an interview with KSAT.
Renard "Nardy" Smith was shot in the back of the head in a convenience store parking lot in the 8000 block of Midcrown Drive on Oct. 25 about 8 p.m. He died later that night at San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Police believe the person or people responsible drove off toward Walzem Road in a silver or light-colored Mercedes-Benz.
The police report mentions witnesses, suspects and surveillance footage, but the shooter has yet to be caught.
Smith’s mother said when she arrived on the scene, she saw plenty of people there.
"And everybody was like, 'We don't know nothing. They don't know nothing,'" she recalled.
Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest for whoever is responsible for Smith's murder. His mother is sure someone knows something.
"I don't care (if) you want the reward or you need the reward. Go for it," she said. "But just please, somebody come forward and tell what they know, that they seen at that store that happened to my child."
Smith wants justice for her son, but it's a poor substitute for the man himself.
"I struggle with it every day," she said. "That's my oldest child, and I just want him back."
Smith said she's praying for her son's killer, too.
"You need to either just give yourself up, because you not going to sleep at night," she said.
