SAN ANTONIO – Former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya on Tuesday told reporters said he's seriously considering a bid for the United States presidency in 2020.
"It’s real … that’s the beauty of our nation,” De La Hoya said at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. “If Arnold [Schwarzenegger] can be governor, if [Donald] Trump can be president, then why can’t a Mexican-American who won an Olympic gold medal, who’s over 35 and a U.S. citizen run for president?"

According to USA Today, the 45-year-old said he would run as a Democrat during the electoral cycle. He said he believes his promotional experience in boxing and money could enable him to run for America's highest office.
"As I got older, I get wiser," he said. "And as I get wiser, I get smarter. And as I get smarter, I start to realize the millions and millions of people who've told me, 'Oscar, why don't you run for some kind of office? Because you can make a difference.'"
De La Hoya during his career from 1992 to 2008 won multiple world titles in six different weight classes.
