The new agreement between the nonprofits will allow the food bank to farm on the property and provide the manpower needed to farm the five-acre Spanish Colonial demonstration farm.
The food grown will be used to feed those in need.
When it was built in the 1700s, Mission San Juan was a self-sustaining community. Orchards and gardens outside the compound grow melons, pumpkins, grapes and peppers.
In full production, the hope is that the farm will yield nearly 500,000 pounds of produce a year.
The San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau will host 15 travel writers for Culinaria Festival Week, who will also participate in the signing.
Following the event there will be a tour of the farm and demonstration of the San Juan irrigation system.
