Rivercenter Mall gets facelift, new name

Shops At Rivercenter to open to public Monday

SAN ANTONIO – A ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday commemorated the official opening of the Shops at Rivercenter.

What used to be known as The Rivercenter Mall will now feature 50 new retail and restaurant establishments.

The event also provided the opportunity to show off the long-awaited preservation and renovation of the historic Joske's building.

A few stores will open to the public Monday, including Dave and Busters on the second floor. Starbucks, H&M and restaurants like Margaritaville will open later.

While the building got a facelift, there is plenty of work to be done before it opens.

"We still have to get it really clean, get it working, get everyone trained, get the routines down, but we're ready to open the doors and show the city of San Antonio what we've accomplished," said Shops at Rivercenter general manager Chris Oviatt.

The new openings will bring more than 500 jobs to downtown San Antonio.
