Pleasanton authorities investigate another apparent murder

Pleasanton police: Daniel Coronado Sr., 45, shot multiple times

PLEASANTON, Texas – Police in Pleasanton are investigating the latest in a rash of murders to hit Atascosa County.

Tuesday night, Pleasanton police found 45-year-old Daniel Coronado Sr. shot to death at his home in the 800 block of Dallas Street.

Officers were responding to a shooting at the home when they found Coronado dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

Neighbors were reluctant to talk about Coronado but said he had lived at the home for six or seven months and had once worked at a lawnmower repair shop. They said he kept to himself and they had not seen indications of him being involved in any suspicious activity.

Coronado's 26-year-old son was also recently slain. Daniel Coronado Jr. was found shot dead in a car in East San Antonio last month.

He was one of three people from Atascosa County that have been killed in separate incidents during a week-long period in mid-June.

Police have not confirmed a connection between the deaths.

Meanwhile, residents in Pleasanton are concerned about the spike in crime, which some suspect is due to the population increase related to the booming Eagle Ford Shale oil region.

"It used to be a pretty safe area to live (in), but with increased population comes increased problems," said Daniel Llanes, a Pleasanton resident.

"Of course, you're concerned when you see things like this happen in a community because it doesn't look good and we know we are a very good community in Pleasanton," said Leon Zabava.

Pleasanton police are releasing very few details on the latest murder but they did say the Texas Rangers are helping with the investigation.
