SAN ANTONIO – Six San Antonio City Council races are headed for a runoff. One incumbent was defeated and three incumbents cruised to victory after the votes were counted in Saturday's election.
One incumbent who will not be returning to Council Chambers is District 7 Cris Medina, who lost to Ana Sandoval.

"It was certainly a long shot wish," Sandoval said of avoiding a runoff. "No one wants to have to do the additional one month. We want to be able to get going and doing our work and get ready, so we're just really happy with the results right now."
Runoffs will be held in Districts 1, 2, 6, 8, 9 and 10. Incumbents involved in runoffs include District 1 Councilman Roberto Trevino, who will face Michael Montano; District 2 Councilman Alan Warrick, who is being challenged by Willam "Cruz" Shaw.
“I knew it was going to be a tough race,” Warrick said. “I’m ready to move things forward.”
He said that his priorities are public safety and infra-structure needs.

Shaw said that his priorities are getting the community involved and informed on what is going on at city hall.
Various newcomers will be involved in runoffs in Districts 6, 8, 9 and 10.
Facing off in District 6 will be Greg Brockhouse and Melissa Cabello Havrda. In District 8, Cynthia Brehm and Manny Pelaez will be battling it out. Marco Barros and John Courage will be involved in a District 9 runoff while District 10 will feature Ezra Johnson and Clayton Perry.
The runoff election will be held June 10.
Easily winning their races were incumbents District 3 Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran, District 4 Councilman Rey Saldana and District 5 Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales easily defeated their opponents.

"Our city's history has been one where we've been able to forget about specific voices in our city, and I'm glad I can be as loud as I can with a bullhorn of a mandate from the voters today that I can bring to them a lot of what they've been expecting and been patient for the last several years, I would say decades," Saldana said.
"The things that I hope to work on in the next two years are this issue of child abuse that is particularly high in the 07 zip code where I live and to continue to work with the small business community so that we can grow jobsright here in the district," Gonzales said of her priorities in her next term.
