This is all an effort to help the families and the animals in the areas dealing with the devastation caused by Harvey.

"It is imperative San Antonio focus on what they can do to help Houston families," said Katie Jarl, the Texas senior state director of the Humane Society. "We need to clear their shelter of adoptable animals, and we need to make sure that they are here to to assist Houston evacuees and their pets."

Tuesday is just the start the plan is for another 100 adoptable pets to take off to Washington and Oregon on Wednesday.

"They need to focus on the rescue and recovery efforts in the coming days, weeks, and months to come," Jarl said. "We know the city of Houston has been hit so hard, and we want to do everything we can to make sure when we are ready, shelters around them can take in those animals."
