SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Military Medical Center said on Monday that San Antonio Police Department officer Juilo Cavazos' condition has been upgraded to "good."
Cavazos is recovering from a gunshot wound to the chin he suffered during a shootout last week.

Cavazos and his partner Officer Miguel Moreno, were investigating car burglaries downtown last Thursday when they approached two men at the intersection of West Evergreen Street and North Main Avenue. One of the men immediately began firing at Moreno and Cavazos, striking Cavazos in the chin and Moreno in the head.
SAPD Chief William McManus said Cavazos, though injured, pulled his partner out of the gunfire and returned fire at the two suspects, striking the gunman once.
The gunman, identified as 34-year-old Andrew Bice, committed suicide at the scene and the man who was with him during the shootout, William Lawson, 30, was arrested on Saturday on new charges. Moreno died from his wounds Friday morning.
The update on Cavazos' condition comes after he underwent surgery Thursday and received treatment in the intensive care unit on Friday. A spokesperson for the police department said Cavazos still "has a long recovery ahead of him."
