SEGUIN, Texas – The 19-year-old man accused of shooting and killing a police officer on the campus of Texas Tech University has close ties to the city of Seguin.
Hollis Daniels, known as Reid to family and friends, grew up in that city and spent at least part of his high school years at Seguin High School.
According to the Seguin Independent School District, Daniels enrolled in February 2015 and received his diploma last June.

Although Tyler Seidenberger also attended Seguin High, he got to know Daniels off campus.
“We had mutual friends,” Seidenberger said. “He'd be there at the house or around. I definitely got to interact with him."
Seidenberger said he was bit blindsided when he read the news in a Facebook post.
He said while they did not know each other well, violence seems out of character for Daniels.
"I'm honestly really shocked. I would never expect that from a kid as good as he was,” Seidenberger said.
Daniels came from a well-known family.
His father, Hollis “Danny” Daniels, Jr., sat on Seguin’s city council from 2006-2010.
His family also founded a chain of theaters decades ago, including the Palace Theatre in Seguin.
Outside his parents' home across from the theater, a relative spoke to KSAT 12 News off-camera Tuesday morning.
He said the family has been hit hard by the news. He said Daniels comes from a loving family who has “done so much for the city of Seguin.”
Now, those who know him are left to wonder what may have gone wrong.
"He had a good heart. Maybe he got mixed up in bad things, or wrong place wrong time,” Seidenberger said.
