Suspect killed in botched robbery at fast food joint on South Side

Robber killed by man who is licensed to carry

SAN ANTONIO – One person is dead after a botched robbery attempt at a fast food restaurant on the city’s South Side.

The shooting happened at a Popeye’s Chicken in the 800 block of Southeast Military Drive on Wednesday night.

Police said a man in his 20s went inside the restaurant and tried to rob a family of five. The father of the family refused to give the man anything and the robber turned to the employees to try to rob them.

Authorities said the employees all ran out the back of the restaurant.

As the father and his family were rushing out, he said the robber pointed a gun at his children. That's when the father, who is licensed to carry, pulled out his weapon and shot the robber.

The family is OK, and no one else was injured.

Police have not released the name of the robber.
