SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Days after losing her parents, Bryan and Karla Holcombe, in the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs shooting, Sarah Slavin shared her first public message, speaking to another side of her parents’ legacy.

“All of these things that you are seeing that they did -- all of these services, these ministries -- that wasn’t them (but) that was God living through them,” Slavin said.

In a six-minute video shared to her Facebook page Thursday afternoon, Slavin said her parents lived a life “filled with Christ” and trusted God with every decision that was made in their lives.

“They would have gladly volunteered to have been killed in this way if they knew it meant that the world was viewing the sermons from the church and that the world was seeing what a Christ-filled life is like,” Slavin said in the video.

Slavin, who was running late as her father was guest-speaking that Sunday morning, also lost six other family members, including her childhood best friend, Tara McNulty.

Since the massacre that took the lives of 26 men, women and children and left 20 others wounded, Slavin said she has been unable to see any of the media coverage but has heard from many that her parents’ stories have comforted them in a time most needed.

Slavin said the purpose of the video was to share “what my parents would want you to know about their lives.”

“What they would want you to know … that love and joy and peace that you’re seeing in all of their actions and basically in their lives, that it’s available to everyone, and that it’s free and it’s simple,” Slavin said.
