Texas A&M system regents approve new seals

Updates are first in 50 years

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – For the first time in 50 years, the official seals of the Texas A&M University system have changed.

The system's Board of Regents voted unanimously on Wednesday to approve the new design which replaces the "T Star" logo with the beveled "Block TAM" logo, the Bryan-College Station Eagle reported.

A&M System Chancellor John Sharp said the change will unify the school's brand identify and will be incorporated gradually through "normal obsolescence," meaning that current seal usage on buildings, doors and vehicles will remain unchanged and will be replaced as necessary.

The change did not come without controversy, however. Students and alumni took to social media to voice their displeasure with the re-design.

"Why on earth would you change something so distinguished to Texas A&M University?" @VincentTheTexan wrote. "We don't need a seal change. Stop messing with tradition."

The beveled "Block TAM" logo was designed for the system by Nike in 1999.
