NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The Comal County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday the gunman behind the Sutherland Springs church shooting was also believed to have been involved in a 2013 sexual assault case.

After the shooting that claimed the lives of 26 people, authorities in Comal County began looking into all previous contact officials had with the gunman, Devin Patrick Kelley, who lived in the county.
Kelley, Comal County authorities said, was believed to have been involved in an alleged sexual assault that occurred in June 2013. The case was stalled in October 2013 "for reasons yet to be determined."

No charges were filed in the case and it is still an open case.
A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said it is currently looking into what caused the delay in the investigation and working with the Texas attorney general to determine what other information the office is able to release.
Comal County authorities also said they had dispatched officers to Kelley's home in 2014 for "a disturbance" and that the call "resulted in no offense report being generated."
