Police in far East Texas arrested a man who kept the skeletal remains of his son — who died in 2018 — in his kitchen, authorities said.
New Boston police said David McMichael was arrested on Tuesday and charged with abuse of a corpse.

Officers made the discovery after a 911 caller requested a welfare check on the man’s son.
When they arrived at the house, officers asked McMichael if he knew why they were there. McMichael then said “it was because he had a body in his kitchen,” police said in a news release.
Authorities found the remains of his son, Jason, who died in May 2018. His body was taken to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for an autopsy.
NBPD did not release a cause of death or the son’s age, but The Texarkana Gazette said the son was an adult.
The newspaper reported that it is believed no one else lived at the house.
