SEGUIN, Texas – The federal government is offering up to $1,000 for the adoption of a wild horse or burro that once roamed public lands out West.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which is hosting the adoption event, will feature 120 animals for people to choose from.

BLM added the incentive will be offered for every adopted animal was an effort to “find every horse and a burro a good home.”
Anyone interested in adopting must be at least 18 years old, have no history of animal abuse, and have a minimum of 400 square feet of corral space at their property per animal. The corrals must have access to food, water, and shelter.
Additionally, corral fence requirements include 6 feet for adult horses, 4 feet for yearlings, and 4 1/2 feet for burros, and the animals must be hauled off in covered stock trailers.
Adoptions will take place from noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Seguin Events Complex.
