3 children, 2 adults killed in Maverick County crash

Charger involved in crash was registered in Somerset

MAVERICK COUNTY, Texas – Five people, including three children, were killed Monday in an early morning collision in Maverick County, according to Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber.

The accident was reported around 1:30 a.m. on Highway 57, 20 miles east of Eagle Pass.

DPS said a Chevy pickup truck and a Dodge Charger collided at the Maverick-Zavala County line.

Two women and a child inside the Charger were killed. Another child in the Charger was taken to a hospital in San Antonio. The vehicle was registered to someone in Somerset.

Two children riding in the truck were killed. Two adults in the truck were also injured and taken to University Hospital by medical helicopter.

The Maverick County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation in conjunction with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
