VIA bus route changes go into effect today

Changes come ahead of opening of new Centro Plaza at West Houston, North Medina streets

SAN ANTONIO – VIA Metropolitan Transit has revised some of its bus routes. The changes, listed below, go into effect Monday.

  • 20 New Braunfels Frequent - Minor route change near Centro Plaza.
  • 46 Commercial - Minor route change to serve Flores instead of Main near Cesar Chavez.
  • 64 US 90 Express - Eastbound route will be modified to travel from Richland Hills to Ingram, Potranco, and Military continuing route on the Loop 410 access road. Westbound route remains unchanged.
  • 68 Guadalupe Frequent - Minor route change near Centro Plaza.
  • 79 Ruiz Frequent - Minor route change near Centro Plaza.
  • 515 Southcross - Sunday service will be added with trips every 60 minutes.
  • 611 Valley-Hi/Kel-Lac - Route will be modified to travel farther south past Morning Valley and to Walmart, Juno Landing, and Sol Trace before returning north on Ray Ellison.
  • 617 Kel-Lac/Rainbow Hills - Route will be modified to turn around using Tarasco, Bertetti, and Tomar instead of the US Highway 90 access road.
  • 620 Northwest Vista College/Ingram - Sunday service will be added with trips every 60 minutes.

In addition to the changes listed above, the following routes will receive minor schedule adjustments: 5, 16, 17, 26, 30, 65, 93, and 100.

Printed pocket schedules will be available soon at all VIA information centers and on buses. To see how these changes affect your trips, use the online Personal Trip Planner up to 14 days in advance and enter a trip date later than May 4, 2015.

The changes come as VIA gets ready to open its new Centro Plaza later this year near the corner of West Houston and North Medina streets.

Formerly known as the Westside Multimodal Transit Center, VIA officials said Centro Plaza will improve accessibility to the city's central business district, TUSA's downtown campus and University Health System's Robert B. Green campus.
