TOROKO SPORTS GAME CENTER
A baseball-themed game center has opened its largest U.S. location in San Antonio, and at 31,000 square feet it is a lot more than a batting cage. Staff walked through the technology: hit-track simulators that give younger players swing analysis and distance data, animated in a way that will feel familiar to anyone who grew up on Wii Sports, plus LCD screens on the pitching machines that show a pitcher winding up instead of a ball appearing out of a hole. There’s also basketball, duck pins and a full arcade, with a Godzilla Kaiju Wars cabinet that drew a crowd of spectators on opening weekend. Unlimited play runs Fridays and Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., pitched as a late-night date option for people leaving a show at the nearby comedy club, and the kitchen turns out pizza, burgers and parmesan truffle fries. The company pointed to San Antonio’s sports culture and the chance to partner with little league teams, colleges and nonprofits as the reason for landing here.
MAX & LOUIE’S NEW YORK DINER
Fresh off a 2026 SA Picks win for Best American Food, the diner effectively relocated its menu into the studio, griddle and all. It’s also a milestone month: ten years in San Antonio, plus a second location in Cibolo that opened four months ago. The burger build got walked through in detail, 80-20 beef that’s fresh and never frozen, a salt, pepper and garlic seasoning mix, buns baked in house, whole heads of lettuce cleaned daily rather than anything out of a bag. The showpiece was the BFS, short for Burger, Fries and Shake, served stacked in a single tall glass with a straw on top; you lift it out by the bottom of the bun, set the burger on your plate and drink the shake. The owner traced the idea back to a slider-sized version passed as an hors d’oeuvre at catering gigs three decades ago. Brunch runs all day, every day, the orange juice is squeezed fresh for mimosas, and the ice cream is now made from scratch in house after the restaurant’s annual volume doubled. The diner’s name is an homage to family, with Melvin’s next door.

Three burgers sat on the table for a visit to the Blanco Road institution: a straightforward American cheeseburger, a cheddar cheesy, and the Macho, layered with refried beans, onions, corn chips and a wall of cheese. The fries are made fresh daily. Management’s pitch for what sets the place apart came down to two things, the sheer volume of cheese and the room’s noise, and to the multigenerational customers who came in as babies and now walk in with careers. The restaurant hits 50 years next year. For the holiday, viewers who mentioned the show got a free order of fries with a cheeseburger.
TNA WRESTLING AT BOEING CENTER AT TECH PORT
AJ Francis brought the “money, money, money” chant into the studio ahead of TNA’s return to San Antonio on September 24 and 25 at Boeing Center at Tech Port, a venue he called one of his favorites on the circuit. The former NFL lineman said he spent six seasons in football while always planning to end up in wrestling, and offered a blunt comparison: wrestling is hard on the body, but easier than football. He’s chasing the TNA World Championship and says he’s peaking, then aimed a callout at Avery Styles, who hasn’t had his first match yet, on the grounds that he’s been trying to get a fight with the kid’s father for years.
