SAN ANTONIO – Congratulations to the Judson Theater Arts department for being voted as the Go Public Cool Schools feature for December! The chanting of fired up theater arts students is what you'll hear inside the Judson High School auditorium and for a good reason. "They are very, very dedicated," said Larry Bailey, lead theater instructor at Judson High School. One student who's continuing to inspire even after graduating from Judson -- is 19-year-old De'Jah Allen, a 2016 Judson High School graduate. That's what's happening in one of the classrooms at Alamo Heights High School. Student groups will compete for a chance to win $10,000 toward the business they created in the Heights Business Incubator program in May when they pitch their idea to a local board of investors! SAN ANTONIO – Welcome to Colonial Hills Elementary School where seeds have been planted at this Northeast Independent School District campus inspiring students to develop green thumbs. There are 22 garden beds at Colonial Hills where the students plant, harvest and deliver produce straight to the cafeteria. All the fresh produce is inspiring these fifth-graders to cook more and it's something they can be proud about. From salsa to fall apple cinnamon-infused water, the students at Colonial Hills are learning healthy recipes while bonding together in the CHEF, a Culinary Health Education for Families program. SAN ANTONIO – LaCoste Elementary is proudly recognized as the Go Public Cool Schools winner for May with its "Leader in Me" program that has been adapted into the students' curriculum. The students at Medina Valley Independent School District's LaCoste Elementary take their leadership roles very seriously. It can change your life forever," said Addison Bemis, first-grader at LaCoste Elementary. The students work together as "Accountability Buddies." "Whenever I need help, my accountability buddies are right on it," said Lily Huron, student at LaCoste Elementary.

SAN ANTONIO – Friday Night Lights for Clemens and Steele high schools is more than just a football game. Texas is known for its tremendous talent with high school football and Steele and Clemens take rivalry to the next level. "If it wasn't for this football program, I probably wouldn't be where I am right now," said Quinton Mayberry, a senior defensive end at Clemens High School. "Friday night is a very special night for the Steele Knights," said Peter Sele, a offensive guard at Steele High School. SAN ANTONIO –The JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps ) program at Cole High School is shining proud— earning the title as April’s Go Public Cool School winning program with the most votes in April. After joining this program, I realized that I am actually unique and I do have things to offer,” said Samantha DeJesus a senior at Cole High School. The rankings system is used at Cole High School as a way to emphasize leadership accomplishments. Brenna Brown, Battalion Commander and a senior at Cole High School, is one leader who is taking advantage of the scholarship opportunities within the program. LaChance said the overall goal is to make these cadets “better citizens” by having them go through this military structured program.

SAN ANTONIO –The Southside High School band is moving to the sound of victory as the We Go Public Cool Schools winner for February! Mike Misko, band director at Southside High School, said he credits the students on all of their hard work for their victory. SAN ANTONIO –A pharmacist, pediatrician or ophthalmologist--students at Memorial High School are getting a head start in the medical field by joining the health and science program. Complete with a mock medical clinic as a classroom, the school earned the title as the Go Public Cool School winner for October. "Coming from the west side of San Antonio I'm just here to help them grow to become professionals in the future," Johnston said. For students like junior Edward Fonseca, who aspires to be a pharmacist, this program has been life-changing. "At first I wasn't really motivated so I would just get to school and leave, now I am the last one to leave," Fonseca said.

“I have students that, yes, they do like classical," said Liliana Cavazos, Orchestra Director. SAN ANTONIO – Solar-powered and student-built - the engineering club at Southwest Legacy High School is paving the road for opportunities by building cars from scratch. "And then they did and they said well they probably can't get here on Saturday and they did." Mr. Franz says it's a way for students to apply science and math into something they enjoy. "They get to do things in high school that most kids don't get to do until they're in college." Legacy High School received 2,211 votes to win the September We Go Public Cool School contest.
